Pharmac Analogy is the electronic music project of JDVS, the artist name of Spanish producer and composer Jay Davidsound.
04 The story
From bands to electronic music.
More than three decades separate the first cassette recordings from Pharmac Analogy. The route was not linear: bands, studio work, live sound, DJing and electronic production developed alongside one another.
1992—1999
Bands, tapes and the first studio
JDVS's musical journey began in 1992 with Boanerges, where he played keyboards, composed his first songs and captured early ideas on cassette. In 1995, he bought his first Yamaha electric bass and formed Basement Annex with electric guitars and a British lead singer, moving from cassette experiments into band arrangements and studio recording. After a change of line-up, Basement Annex evolved into Bassmen in 1999.
Around 2000–2006
A parallel electronic path
Alongside his work with Bassmen, around 2000 JDVS began developing an independent approach to computer-based electronic music production.
Using FruityLoops and ACID Music, he created remixes, mashups and original experimental electronic tracks, exploring sequencing, loops, sampling and digital arrangement outside the traditional band format.
This parallel work established a second creative language — one based on computers, electronic production and experimentation — that would continue evolving throughout the following years and eventually become an important part of JDVS's musical identity.
2000–2006 / Bassmen
Composition, production & live performance
During the Bassmen years, JDVS took an active role in the band's creative and recording process as a composer, guitarist and keyboard player. He also produced the band's demo recording, “Sounds and Melancholie”, bringing together composition, arrangement, recording and production alongside the band's live activity.
This period became an important part of his development as both a musician and producer, combining studio work and live performance while a parallel interest in computer-based electronic music was beginning to open a different creative path.
2006—2018
From live sound to the DJ booth
When the Bassmen chapter ended in 2006, JDVS moved into sound reinforcement for events and occasional DJing. In 2010, Logic Pro became the centre of a renewed studio workflow for original experimental music. From 2011 to 2018, the focus shifted primarily to DJing with Traktor and the Kontrol S2 MK2 — mixing, building sets and learning how rhythm, dynamics and arrangement behave through a sound system.
2018—2024
Different projects, one direction
In 2018, Storm Botnet revisited darker, experimental rock. Beats Order followed in 2020, turning the focus back toward electronic dance music. Work released and developed under the JDVS name from 2021 to 2024 became the bridge between those worlds: bands, studio craft, live sound, DJ culture and independent electronic production were beginning to converge.
